At Emberglow Cattery, we're passionate about responsible breeding, prioritizing the health and happiness of our kittens. Our family-run cattery, with over 15 years of experience, crafts a nurturing environment where every kitten thrives, ready to bring boundless joy to their new families. We offer a wide variety of kittens for sale, carefully selected for their unique personalities and vibrant health.
Munchkin: Known for their playful, energetic personalities and endearingly short legs, Munchkins are a joy to watch interact. Their lively energy makes them perfect for families who enjoy an active lifestyle and lots of playtime. They're surprisingly adaptable and affectionate, fitting into a wide range of homes.
Minuet: The Minuet is a captivating breed, combining a playful spirit with an endearingly compact size. These kittens are often described as being wonderfully curious and very social. Their smaller size makes them a great choice for those with limited space, but their personality is always larger than life.
Ragdoll: These gorgeous giants are renowned for their sweet, laid-back personalities. Ragdolls are incredibly affectionate and love to cuddle. Their calm demeanor is perfect for families with children or those seeking a gentle, loving companion. They often seem to melt your heart.
Scottish Fold/Straight: The unique folded ears of the Scottish Fold (and the classic straight ears of the Scottish Straight) make them instantly recognizable and charming. Both breeds are known for their affectionate and playful nature, making them wonderful companions for families who enjoy spending quality time with their feline friends.
British Shorthair/Longhair: British Shorthairs, with their striking coats and round faces, are known for their affectionate and gentle temperaments. They're incredibly adaptable to different environments and usually enjoy lounging. The longhair version boasts a plush and luxurious coat. They're perfectly suited to families who value a calm and loving companion.
Exotic Shorthair/Longhair: Distinguished by their captivating "short" and "long-hair" varieties, Exotic Shorthairs are known for their affectionate and outgoing personalities. These cats are very adaptable to different households and adore cuddles. Their striking patterned coats add to their captivating charm.
Important Note: While these are general breed tendencies, each kitten is an individual. Personality and behavior can vary within each breed, making it vital to consider each kitten's specific personality.
Phase 1: Initial Settling-In (First 2 Weeks):
Quarantine (Critical): Isolate your new kitten in a separate, safe room for 2 weeks, minimizing the risk of introducing illness to existing pets. This room should be dedicated to the kitten and include everything they need for comfort and ease, including a bed, food, water, litterbox, toys, and scratching post.
Safe Space Setup: Furnish the isolation room with a comfortable bed, food and water bowls, a litter box (essential! and large enough for the kitten to turn around), and engaging toys. Avoid clutter or sharp objects.
Introduction of Other Pets (if applicable): For existing pets, introduce them slowly and under supervision. Initially, allow only supervised, short sessions of nose-to-nose sniffing. Gradually increase interaction time. Never leave them alone unsupervised when together.
Scent Familiarisation: As mentioned, use litterboxes to create comfortable associations and avoid introducing any unexpected smells that might disorient your new kitten. Use a soft cloth or paper towel to gently wipe down the kitten's face, legs & body to neutralize or lessen unfamiliar smells.
High-Quality Kitten Food and Water: Provide age-appropriate kitten food and fresh water daily.
Large Litter Box and Premium Litter: Choose a spacious litterbox with absorbent, clumping litter. The box must be in a consistently convenient and reliable spot.
Scratching Post: A sturdy, vertically oriented scratching post is crucial to prevent furniture damage. Opt for a variety of textures and options if possible. Kittens love exploring.
Cozy Sleeping Space: Provide a warm, safe, and comfortable bed for rest, including blankets/materials that are familiar to your kitten from their former environment, if possible..
Stimulating Toys: Offer a variety of soft toys, interactive toys (like crinkle balls or feather wands), and puzzles to engage your kitten's natural instincts and keep them entertained.
Feeding Schedule: Establish a consistent feeding schedule to regulate digestion.
Portion Control: Monitor portions to prevent overfeeding, leading to weight problems (and health issues).
Fresh Water Supply: Always maintain a fresh water source.
Playtime: Regular, supervised playtime is essential for your kitten's physical and mental development. Playtime helps them burn energy, satisfy natural instincts, and stimulate their minds.
Early Veterinary Visit: Schedule a visit to the vet within the first week for vaccinations, microchipping, and a thorough health check. This is crucial for ensuring your kitten is healthy and protected.
Ongoing Health Monitoring: Watch for changes in appetite, water consumption, elimination, grooming, activity levels, and overall behaviour. These indicators provide crucial clues into your kitten's well-being.
Litter Box Etiquette: Consistency is key to house training. Place the litter box in a quiet, accessible location. Clean it daily.
Positive Reinforcement: Praise and reward good behaviour.
Avoiding Punishment: Avoid harsh punishments to encourage appropriate behavior.
Kitten-Proofing: Secure your home to prevent accidents and injuries. Consider installing soft surfaces or padded furnishings to reduce potential harm from falls.
Patience and Understanding: Kittens take time to adjust to a new environment and family.
Enjoy your new companion! If you have concerns, consult your veterinarian for personalized advice.
